Does AI mention your product when buyers ask?

Three buying-intent queries. Four AI providers. One scan shows exactly where your product is cited, what AI says around it, and where the citation gaps are.

How it works

Three queries, four providers, one scan

Enter your product name and up to two use cases. The tool generates the queries, runs them in parallel, and returns citation status for every combination.

Q1
Identity query

"What is [product] and who is it for?"

Tests whether AI can define the product and identify its target customer — the baseline brand-knowledge query.

Q2
Use-case query

"Is [product] a good choice for [use case]?"

Without a use case: "Is [product] worth buying?"

Tests use-case citation. If you provide a use case, the query targets it directly. Without a use case, it runs a general purchase intent query.

Q3
Comparison query

"What makes [product] different from alternatives for [use case]?"

Without a use case: "How does [product] compare to similar products?"

Tests whether AI mentions the product when a buyer is comparing options — the highest-value purchase-stage query.

What your citation rate means

Rate is calculated as: citations received divided by 12 total query/provider runs.

60-100%
Strong presence

AI systems reliably mention this product by name across most buying-intent queries and providers.

30-59%
Partial presence

Cited in some query contexts or by some providers, but not consistently. There is a clear optimization gap.

0-29%
Weak presence

AI systems rarely mention this product by name. The product lacks the structured signals needed for citation.

What it returns

Everything in one 40-credit scan

Three buying-intent queries generated from your inputs

The tool builds three structured queries from your product name and optional use cases: an identity query, a use-case query, and a comparison query. These map directly to the three stages of the AI buying journey — awareness, evaluation, and comparison.

Four providers queried in parallel

All three queries run across ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Overview, and Google AI Mode simultaneously. Twelve total query/provider combinations run in a single 40-credit scan.

Exact response excerpt around the citation

When a provider mentions your product, the tool extracts a 180-character window centered on the mention — 60 characters before and 120 after — so you can read the exact context in which the product was cited.

Overall citation rate across all providers

Citation rate is the percentage of all 12 query/provider runs where your product name appeared in the response. Rates are benchmarked at three tiers: Strong (60%+), Partial (30-59%), and Weak (under 30%).

FAQ

Common questions

What exactly counts as a citation?

A citation is recorded when your product name — as you entered it — appears verbatim in the AI's response text. The tool checks for a case-insensitive match of the exact string. If the name appears, the run is counted as cited; if not, it is not. The excerpt shows the text around the match so you can verify the context.

What are the three queries, and can I customize them?

The tool generates three structured buying-intent queries from your product name and use cases: (1) an identity query — 'What is [product] and who is it for?', (2) a use-case query — 'Is [product] a good choice for [use case]?' (or 'Is [product] worth buying?' if no use case is provided), and (3) a comparison query — 'What makes [product] different from alternatives for [use case]?' (or a generic comparison if no second use case is provided). The queries are generated automatically; you shape them by supplying the product type and use cases.

Why do some providers return no excerpt even when not cited?

If the product is not cited, the excerpt shows the first 150 characters of the provider's response. For Google AI Overview and Google AI Mode, if the API returns no structured AI response for that query, the excerpt will be empty — this is a signal that the query did not trigger an AI-generated answer on that platform, not a tool error.

How many credits does a scan cost?

Each scan costs 40 credits and covers all three queries across all four providers — 12 total query/provider runs. You can test up to three use cases per scan by providing them on separate lines.

My citation rate is low. What should I fix first?

If the identity query (Q1) returns no citations, the product description on your site does not give AI systems enough signal to identify and define the product. Start with the Product Optimizer to rewrite the description with the entity-first structure AI systems extract from. Then run the Schema Auditor to add structured product data. For use-case queries, write 'best for [use case]' articles that name the product explicitly.

What is the difference between Google AI Overview and Google AI Mode?

Google AI Overview is the AI-generated summary that appears at the top of Google search results for informational and product queries. Google AI Mode is Google's conversational AI search interface. The scanner tests both separately because a product can be cited in one but not the other — they draw from different signals and ranking systems.
